Right from the start you just know this is going to be a great record! The first track 'As I Walk With Fire' builds with a slow, gritty intro leading you into complete chaos where the heavy drums, guitar and bass immediately take your senses hostage.

Opheon album cover

Liams screams shatters your eardrums and within seconds my body starts to move like I'm a puppet on a string. The song breaks into its chorus where this vocalist proves hes got it and charms me with his melody before slapping my across the face with the full force of the bands momentum.

Moving through to 'Shackles Remain' my favorite track on the album, the manic, melodic harmony of the instrumentals make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and I can't but help play it over again and again as I sing along and pull out my air guitar jumping of the bed like a rockstar!

'A Portrait of Self Hate' is a perfect blend of gritty screams, head banging solos and rhythmic drum work which hurtle you into the acoustic magic that is 'The Answer' I really do love this song with its tranquil instrumental and near ghostly vocals.

The bands influences are forced to the surface in 'Lost in the Undertow' and I don't know if its just me but I swear it's been kicked up a notch, this song is darker than the rest and excites me in ways I can't really describe.

Non-stop head banging ensues as I'm taken on a roller coaster by the sickening guitar work and extreme drums. Ending with their new single 'The Distance' this EP should be on the top of every metalheads wish list. Go out and buy it immediately you won't be sorry!!!

SMM – 8/10
