Imagine Dragons prove Night Visions was not a fluke

The Welsh quartet provide a sequel to the worldwide debut album, Night Visions, with Smoke + Mirrors. The entire album was recorded in a custom built studio, with frontman Dan Reynolds commenting, “Working in a rented studio usually ends up with the creative process being somewhat rushed, so this was the best way to make something at our own pace.”

This evidently comes through with much attention to detail how the songs are structured, as the title track is atmospheric with a slight slant on freedom with a punchy burst of explosive elements.

With the Grammy success of ‘Radioactive’ there are a few contenders for them to bag another on this album. The aggression fuelled ‘I’m So Sorry’ will stir passion and anger to automatically become a mini rock god causing destruction in your wake. However to calm you down as a sort of antidote to all that anger ‘I Bet My Life’ is a cheerful, uplifting somewhat anthem and expect it to be hidden in commercials or rom-coms to come. Third best is sort of the wild card I’ll throw out there, Friction, which has an almost egyptian rock core to the track with a mixture full of snappy lyrics that will make it a tour sing-a-long must. In addition it would work perfectly with a movie montage of a serial killer or someone of that ilk whose about to commit another offence.

Overall this album is a must-buy in my opinion as the songs no matter who you are seem to entice you in and make you remember those forgotten memories whether negative or positive. Following up from Night Visions I honestly thought would be near on implausible, but now much like some movie sequels it has trumped the original. Imagine Dragons are currently on tour and tickets can be found online.
