Nothing Vice to Say

Right from the start of this film I had a feeling it was not going to be a good one. I mean from the very first second. Straight away we see incredibly shocking acting and poor use of camera shots.

Both continue throughout, which is not only excruciatingly frustrating but also helps towards the general atmosphere this film creates for its viewer. It is constantly making you feel sort of weird just because of how awful every component of this film is. It just never really gets going and has no success in grabbing the attention of the audience even though it tries oh so very hard. At least it did try, that’s a positive about the film I suppose.

A simple yet perfect word to describe the film would be annoying. With even the little things like the very unnecessary long credits at the beginning after a poorly shot opening scene. Even at those credits it makes you feel like turning it off there and then. As the film goes on it doesn’t really get any better, each continuing scene doesn’t seem to flow one after another. Every individual scene makes you scratch your head in a “What the?!” sort of attitude as nothing makes sense.

The uncontrollable constant fast moving camera work could be the cause of that with the almost dizziness sensation it creates. That takes your attention off what is actually going on in the story. Well, when it comes to the story, you never really know what is going on. I mean near enough every single film that has ever been made is far-fetched. We all know that most things that happen in films, would not happen in reality yet most will still make all those farfetched moments seem believable. I cannot say the same about Vice.

Everything that happens is just not believable because of how it has been made. People raping and killing robots…. WHAT?! What makes it all so unbelievable and confusing could be the cringe worthy acting from start to finish. This and all the other elements of this film caused me to be losing interest and not even concentrating, taking phone calls and going to re stock on hob nobs which were the most satisfying moments I experienced whilst watching.

Although what I will say which is my second and final positive is that I do actually like the background idea. Yeah it is very weird to have another world where people like to murder innocent artificial intelligence, but I think that if this film was given to a production company with a higher budget with a better cast and crew then it may have worked. Never mind. I won’t lose sleep. Good concept, poorly executed. Yet another painful to watch Willis film.
