Big Hero 6 is a Big Hit.

Big Hero 6 is about a brotherly bond... wait... it’s about friends always being there for you no matter what...wait...It’s about doing the right thing....hmm...ok this film is a lot of things but the one thing it isn’t? An all singing, dancing, Disney film. I will try and keep it as Spoiler free as possible. No guarantees.

Big Hero 6 marks the first ever Disney animated film to feature Marvel Comic characters since being bought out back in 2009 for 4.6 billion. Yes it IS a Marvel film despite the lack of the Marvel logo in the introduction alongside the not one but two Disney ones, just in case you forgot the first time.

This is the 54th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and in order to create this beautiful film the team at the studios created a brand new software technology to bring to life this futuristic city called San Fansokyo. Of course this is the first Disney Classic after the huge hit, Frozen, which is now the most successful animated movie of all time, so the amount of pressure on Disney to create something visually as spectacular and brilliant must have been a real stress on the creators. But I think they have pulled it off.

Obviously there was no singing, dancing, or hunky ice men in this film but move aside Olaf, I think we have the next best huggable, lovable, adorable character... Baymax. Baymax is a mixture of the Terminator and the Michelin Man; you cannot help but fall in love with this character!

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that this film also came just in time for the 10 year anniversary of the Incredibles, a Disney/ Pixar classic which features both superheroes and bad ass fighting sequences. Did I believe Big Hero 6 was more incredible than the Incredibles? I am not sure, and for a 10 year old film to still be battling against new and more digitally impressive a film... that raises questions.

There are obvious qualities of this film which are superior to any animated feature film, such as its complete attention to detail with every character and every single object whether it was in your face or in the background going unnoticed unlike Frozen. It was visually one of the most beautiful films to watch, every other scene looked like it had jumped out from a painting and into our lives. Even though Big Hero 6 did bring me more emotional pain and I had to reach for my tissue once or twice it still didn’t hide the fact of the lack of connecting with a side character... or maybe that was just me.

At least in the Incredibles each superhero plays his or hers part, but in this film even though the other superheroes were there and were helping... They were thrown in and out of the film very quickly. It would have been nice for Honey Lemon, GoGo, Fred and Wasabi, who are the main friends with Tadashi, Hiros brother to have gone on their own little missions away from Hiro and Baymax.

Merchandise has already been going strong way before the film was even released here in the UK and I can imagine a little Baymax will be joining my collection of stuffed toy characters very soon.

But like every Marvel film there of course is a secret little Easter egg at the end of the film, so just sit back and relax and prepare to laugh and cry.... mostly cry... a lot.
