Terrorist threats cause West Midlands Police to enforce safety precautions

Following a dangerous threat towards a West Midlands police officer, the force have undertaken serious safety precautions to protect their officers and recently made an arrest.

Last night, a phone call was made from an alleged terrorist threatening to 'kidnap and murder' a serving officer. Since the threat, the force have taken severe action and have issued a security alert to all of their staff. The police have claimed to be taking the matter 'extremely seriously', yet have also reinforced that there is no increased risk to the public.

This is what an assistant chief constable had to say referring to the matter: “We have taken the opportunity to remind all employees of the need to be vigilant. Our priority remains serving our communities and protecting them from harm. Officers remain on patrol and our staff continue to respond to calls for service as usual.” – Assistant Chief Constable Garry Forsyth

The force foremost resulted in keeping officers at their bases. They have since felt safe enough to let some officers return home, but have issued warnings surrounding the use of transport and wearing their uniforms. Officers are advised to avoid public transport at this current time and will be wearing partial uniform outside of the station. Security has additionally stepped up around the regional police stations.

The West Midlands police have taken to twitter to reassure public safety and have a contact number for any queries revolving security: “Anyone with any security concerns should call us on 101, or 999 in an emergency”. -@WMPolice

Their use of social media emphasis' that officers are still working and on patrol, and that members of the public have no need to worry.

This can also be said for all of our university's students. Regardless of the threat that has been made, students who live or travel into Wolverhampton should not feel in any danger due to this matter. The West Midlands Police force have created these safety precautions and increased security, on the basis that both officers and members of the public are kept safe.

BREAKING - The West Midlands Police Counter Terrorism Unit have made an arrest of a 31-year-old man in connection with the plotted kidnapping.
