A Wolverhampton Industrial Estate was crippled in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

By Scott Edwards

Stag Industrial Estate in on Oxford Street, Bilston was engulfed by flames at around 2:30am on the morning of November 19th. At the peak of the blaze, around 85 firefighters were present from 10 Black Country stations.

Initially, only three engines were dispatched to the scene, but they soon had to call for reinforcements when the fire rapidly spread.

The fires extent saw the fire brigades use water from a nearby canal to use as reserve water to drown the raging flames.

By mid-morning, 75 firefighters were still trying to get it under control and it was still rendered 'unstable' by fire chiefs at the scene approaching midday.

It wasn't until the early afternoon that police were allowed access to the smouldering scene to scope the area for clues as to what may have caused the fire and for any casualties that may have fallen victim to it.

So far, no casualties have been found and nothing has been identified as the cause of the blaze.

It has since surfaced that seven firms based at Stag Industrial Estate have been dramatically effected, including Stag Metals, All Appliance Centre and Fibre-tech. The fire is said to have caused hundreds of thousands of pounds damage the firms who's lots went up in smoke, with some even fearing they may have to shut down their business' for good.
