High School Supernatural? 200th Episode Review

Supernatural finally reached its 200th episode recently, despite having many ups and downs along the way.

By Camilla Hall

For those who may not know, Supernatural is a show about two brothers who hunt the scary monsters that we have all heard as stories about as children. The brothers, Sam and Dean, travel all across America to hunt the evils that lurk among people, whilst dealing with not-so-typical family drama along the way.

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions with Supernatural. I’ll warn you now, if you have not seen this show yet but have an interest in watching it, do not read this any further. SPOILERS ALERT!

As an audience, we’ve been on a journey with Sam and Dean as they searched for their father. Along the way, they have constantly fought off demons, tried to stop an apocalypse but ended up just creating it, working alongside an angel and working alongside a demon… Oh, and can anyone forget about Dean’s trip to hell and back, literally.

So it’s little to say that these brothers have been on a serious and emphatic journey along the way to season 10, resulting in this 200th episode!

So, what was this landmark episode like? Was it extra scary? Were there more demons than usual? Was it teeming with family drama?

The answer, my people, is very much a no. Supernatural took a completely different turn and did an hour long musical. Yes, you read that correctly: a musical.

Who can complain though? Seeing Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) on our screens for an hour is not the worst thing we could possibly see. Let’s not forget Misha Collins who plays the innocent and loveable angel Castiel.

So, why did they decide to do a musical for the 200th episode? Seems a little strange for such a serious show to include musical numbers in one of its episodes. Well, it’s what the fans wanted. You asked for it, and they listened. This latest episode was based on ‘fan fiction’ and fans went crazy for it.

It’s a refreshing change to see a network paying attention to what its fan wants. Shows such as Psych and Grey’s Anatomy have also done an episode which was set as a musical.

Reaching 200 episodes in a television programme is a pretty big deal, and as fans I’m sure we all hope that Supernatural may carry on and reach a 300th episode… or is that just getting too ahead things?
