The younger generations will remember Hoskins for his roles in such films as Detective Valliant from 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' and Smee from Robin Williams' 'Hook'.

British-born Hoskins was admitted to hospital with a bout of pneumonia before passing away.

The extremely versatile nature of Hoskins' filmography goes further than many of the great 80's actors. His work in 80's gangster film 'The Long Good Friday' got Hoskins noticed by some of the biggest critics in Hollywood, earning him a BAFTA nomination.

Following this, Hoskins made his way up the ladder in Hollywood, playing small parts in 'Pink Floyd The Wall' and 'Brazil' before securing the risky role as George in 'Mona Lisa'. However, that risk paid off, and Hoskins managed to climb amongst the greats in Hollywood, going on to be in films such as 'The Colour of Money' and 'Nixon'.

His last known work was his role as Muir, in 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.
